Haku the Water Dragon!
Haku the water dragon

I don’t just love the senior dogs, but I love the senior lizards too!
When in to get some feeders and this guy just sat in an enclosure in the back. The story I got was his owner had him for about 14 years and he was out with his owner constantly and very loved (they can live to over 20 in captivity) but he went to college and couldn’t bring him with.
The elderly parents of the owner told his job we just didn’t want to have him anymore because they wanted to travel. The saddest part about this story is they even mentioned they haven’t even told their son yet

The shop owner had plans to breed him, and that made me more sad. He’s old, and now living in a small ass enclosure with a tiny ass water bowl (they love to swim, need about 80% humidity and love wet surroundings) and just one tiny ass branch thing he sat on. and young water dragons are known to not survive very well in captivity due to improper care.
For two months I kept up trying to convince them to give him to me. The lady at the shop you could tell was really wanting to give him to me.
One day I got the call to just come get him

I try not to have favorites, but this guy is pretty special and literally out of any reptiles I own, I trust him the most.
I thought I would share his story and his beautiful face again because I can’t tell you how much every single morning I am just so happy to see him

When I open his door in the morning to turn on his lights he climbs out and perches on my shoulder or chest, he gets so eager to have his pool get fresh water in the morning, and his berries.
We’re going on almost 2 years, and he’s still as healthy and beautiful as ever. His colors are so incredible.
